Romantic comedies are a guilty pleasure we all know and love. While they often are far from our reality, they can provide some great, unique dating inspiration. Here’s a list of our favorite rom coms and tips on how to turn your love-life into a possible scene from these movies:
Paintballing in 10 Things I Hate About You
The couple in the film 10 Things I hate About You go from peddle boating on a lake to paintballing in a park. It not only brings out the competition in them but it also allows them to act like little kids again. Although it can get a little messy, paintballing may be the perfect opportunity to get a little romantic with your love interest. This is a perfect activity to get things exciting while simultaneously getting to know them. Think of it as foreplay!
Furniture shopping from 500 Days of Summer
Forget the classic dinner and a movie, why not dinner and furniture shop? We adore the romance and humor in this scene of 500 Days of Summer. The main characters embark to Ikea to shop and end up playing house, and having what really looks like the best time! Whether you have things to actually shop for or are just bored, Ikea will surely entertain you. Known for its model rooms and furniture, you’re sure to feel at home with your date. And don’t forget to stop by the café on your way out for some Swedish meatballs or froyo!
Boat ride inspired by The Proposal
If you’ve seen The Proposal, you’re probably thinking this is a horrible recommendation, but hear me out. Sandra Bullock’s character actually falls off the boat and is saved by her pretend boyfriend played by Ryan Reynolds. Minus the whole falling off the boat aspect, going on boat date can be extremely romantic. All alone on the open water and enjoying the breeze and ocean, or lake, will bring a beauty like no other. You can even bring dinner and make it a water-front picnic! If you’re lucky enough to live near the water, there are sure to be boats for rent to make your own private water getaway for the night.
Notting Hill garden visit
It might be hard, or nearly impossible, to find a secret garden as cute as the one featured in Notting Hill, but your local park can be a great alternative. We love the peace and quiet the garden provides in this film, and a park at night will definitely do the trick. Grab a bottle of wine in some coffee cups and enjoy your own mini picnic!
Knocked Up dinner date
No matter how long you’ve been dating, a dinner date is a great way to spend the night. Trying a new restaurant or visiting your usual spots is a relaxed way to get to know each other or simply talk about your day. Having another couple there, like the ones in Knocked Up, can definitely make things more comfortable for first-timers!
While these dates range from classic to spontaneous, they are great starting points to plan a unique afternoon in the sun or evening event.
